BLWAC Responsibilities

  • Create recommendations about wildlife management and present them to the City Council for consideration.
  • Be the city’s representative to collect facts on deer (wildlife) developments and implications from various agencies/organizations.
  • Coordinate with the Piedmont Land Trust.
  • To advise, coordinate and recommend steps to protect natural environment.
  • To coordinate all communication to Berkeley Lake residents concerning deer and other wildlife.
  • To educate the community on positive and challenging aspects of our ecosystem.
  • To continue Berkeley Lake’s long history of managing and protecting our natural resources, expand community awareness and engage residents’ support.
  • To provide residents with needed information on a public site, and the Mayor’s periodic message:
    • Educational materials
    • City ordinances on hunting
    • Permission/waiver forms for bow hunting
    • FAQ’s
    • Educational information
    • Shared info from adjacent cities on deer management
    • Data, research and survey tools
  • Coordinate and interface with state agencies (DNR, USDA) for information and resources to assist the community.
